World Dance 2011 Amphi Wohl Tel Aviv

The World Dance project, which is a co-production by the Suzanne Dellal Center and the Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality's Performances Department, will host works, choreographers and artists of different styles in Israel, and will also include, for the second year in a row, Madridanza events.

Yair Vardi, CEO of the Suzanne Dellal Center, and the event's artistic director: "For quite a while the Suzanne Dellal Center and the municipality's Performances Department, headed by Shaby Mizrachi, have wanted to establish an international platform for dance under the open skies of the Tel Aviv summer. Fascinating foreign artists have taken up the challenge, alongside Israeli artists, and Amphi Whol provides a perfect setting for dance, in addition to its added value as a roofed stage in an open amphitheatre".

The events will be kicked off by Drew Jacoby (US) and Rubinald Pronk (Netherlands), two outstanding dancers performing a unique and young repertoire with an artistic statement that combines dance, art, fashion, music and technology. As part of the festival, they will perform three duets of contemporary choreography. The evening will include a performance by Rooster dancers in segments from the work by Barak Marshall and dancers of The Project, an initiative by the Israeli Opera & the Suzanne Dellal Center, performing Light Years by Jacopo Godani.

The Flamenco dance company, directed by Michal Natan, will host the renowned Spanish dancer Miguel Angel Espana and Israeli singer Galit Giat in a world premiere of their work Pavo Real.

For classical ballet lovers, the Israeli Ballet will perform Don Quixote, a ballet in 2 acts and 5 scenes based on Don Quixote of La Mancha, with choreography by Marius Petipa (revised by Aleksander Gorsky) and music by Ludwig Minkus.

In the wake of the success of their first visit to Israel, 8 of the lead dancers of the New York City Dancers company will present a performance composed of pieces by great choreographers - Balanchine, Robbins, Petipa and Gold.

Another international evening of stars will be a world premier of a new creation - Incidence Choregraphique, performed by soloists of the Paris Opera Ballet.

As part of Madridanza, the Víctor Ullate Ballet will perform for the first time in Israel, as well as Jose Porcel's Flamenco company.

The Spanish Gala performance will combine artists from Madrid and Tel Aviv on the same stage, and will include Jose Porcel and musicians, Victor Ullate Ballet dancers, Michal Natan & Miguel Angel, Silvya Duran in a solo piece, and Gentian Doda & Dimo Kirilov in two duets, one by Nacho Dueto and the other by Gentian Doda.
