Pioneers of the Upper Galilee

“On the palate similar to the nose, the wine comes on with a slight sweetness, accompanied by a taste of red fruits. At the finish, a spicy flavor of thyme and smoked black pepper. The wine will go well with sweet Moroccan tagines, potent blue cheese and quality bitter chocolate.”

Founded in 1995, Dalton winery was the first to recognize the Upper Galilee's tremendous potential as a prime winemaking region. Dalton is also one of the only commercial wineries that have a female lead-winemaker. After training in Australia and California, the talented Nama Mualem returned to Israel and began producing quality wines under Dalton’s roof. Until recently, the winery concentrated on producing varietal wines. Alma, 2005 is Dalton Winery’s first attempt to produce a high-end blended wine in mass production. The wine sells for around 80 NIS, placing it between the medium "D" series, and Dalton's high end reserve series. This classic Bordeaux-style blend spent 14 months in French barrels and contains 13.5% alcohol.

Tasting notes:

This is a medium bodied blend, ruby red in color with aromas of red plums and cherry liquor, followed by a slight herbaceous character and a hint of black pepper. On the palate similar to the nose, the wine comes on with a slight sweetness, accompanied by a taste of red fruits. At the finish, a spicy flavor of thyme and smoked black pepper. The wine will go well with sweet Moroccan tagines, potent blue cheese and quality bitter chocolate.

Tip of the week:

Most wines should be stored horizontally, thus ensuring that the cork is in contact with the wine keeping the cork damp and elastic.
