“I can’t find a verbal translation for “Hamesameach”, but in Hebrew the word basically means “the one who makes others happy”, and let me tell you they usually succeed.” Yonatan Sternberg & Yuval Blankovsky know of a beverage store that is sure to fill your shopping bag with good wine and your heart with happiness.
Again I was off to my local wine vendors in search of a few reasonably priced white wines. Luckily, I live not to far from the “Machne Yehuda” shuk (Hebrew for market) which offers a plethora of both wholesale and retail beverage and wine stores. My favorite beverage store in the shuk is, “Hamesameach” which is situated on Agripass street. Unfortunately I can’t find a verbal translation for “Hamesameach”, but in Hebrew the word basically means “the one who makes others happy”, and let me tell you they usually succeed.
The store offers a wide selection of beverages’ ranging from soft drinks to exclusive and rare kosher wines. “Hamesameach” also has a wide selection of beers representing some of Europe’s top major breweries as well as some leading Belgian and Israeli micro breweries.
You can see how easy it is to get lost in this store; this is why I prefer to go to “Hamesameach” with a shopping list or at least a budget to limit my spending. From my experience you can always find a sale or two when visiting the store. This time I noticed a bottle of the Golan Heights, Yarden, Sauvignon Blanc, 2005, for an amazing price. Not to be compared with the wines above but with the current sale, you just can’t go wrong.
Tasting notes: Light straw with golden reflections, this refreshing white offers lovely floral and fruity aromas, particularly: green apples and lemon. Similar to other typical Sauvignon Blanc’s the wine is also showing plenty of spices and a touch of grass.
Food Pairing: This refreshing Sauvignon Blanc should go well with light fish dishes or sea food. Another great option would be to serve this wine alongside a platter of fresh vegetables with an assortment of dips.
Tip of the Week: When shopping for wine it helps to prepare a budget, sales people can be very aggressive and without a budget you may end up spending a lot more than you intended to.
