I gathered some updates from the local wine industry, including two new vinos from Dalton; a cool musical performance and a very special culinary project that has been running in Jaffa for the past several months
While I am a strong advocate for considering wine as a basic consumption product and feel that people should enjoy a glass of wine with their meal at least two-three times a week (if not on a daily basis), I am sure that most of you will agree that wine is much more than just a “regular beverage”. It is a representation of local culture and tradition, an accompaniment to food and special celebrations and the drink of choice at many musical performances and social gatherings.

With this in mind, I gathered some updates from the local wine industry, including two new vinos from Dalton; a cool musical performance and a very special culinary project that has been running in Jaffa for the past several months.

New Wines by Dalton

The Dalton winery and winemaker Naama Sorkin recently released the Rose 2013 and the Zinfandel ‘D’ from the 2012 vintage. I thought that I would have to wait until the summer to serve the Rose but with the fickle winter that we have been experiencing, I ended up uncorking the bottle last Friday with 26 C degrees in Jerusalem. A blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Barbera grapes; light and refreshing, pleasant sweetness and good balancing acidity suggesting aromas and flavors that bring to mind strawberries and flowers. I will need to pick up a few more bottles before summer really begins. The Zinfandel is dark purple in color, medium bodied, with juicy dark berry fruit and plums notes followed by hints of vanilla and toasted oak leading to a pleasant finish.

Gamla & Tel Aviv's Ozen Bar

The Golan Heights Winery is sponsoring a series of musical performances at the Ozen Bar in Tel Aviv and wines from the Gamla label will be offered at attractive prices with discounted refills. The next performance will take place on 6 March and feature musician Tamar Eizenman and Rona Keinan.

Jaffa Wines

This very impressive project started several months ago by Dolev Givon Roter. Every gathering includes only 16 guests who come together to partake in a guided winetasting featuring a different winery, good food and live jazz music. In the coming weeks Jaffa will host Gv’aot, Cahanov, Avidan and Mt. Odem wineries.
