Tel Aviv Jazz Festival 2010
Tel Aviv Jazz Festival 2010 Cinematheque Tel Aviv
The Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, celebrating its 21st year, is one of the leading jazz events in Israel and is going on now, from 3/2-5/2.
The Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, celebrating its 21st year, is one of the leading jazz events in Israel.
This year, the Festival is proud to host the internationally renowned jazz musician Lee Konitz, one of the last jazz greats still active today. Konitz, 82, is one of the founders of the Cool Jazz style, with dozens of celebrated albums to his credit, and collaborations with other jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Chet Baker and Pat Metheny. In a special production for the Festival, Konitz joins a group of Israeli jazz stars, led by the saxophonist Yuval Cohen, performing famous all-time jazz hits.

The main Israeli performance this year will feature the original Pa'amon (Bell) production, by pianist, composer and arranger Adi Rennert, who composed original music for texts from various sources, combining Israeli, modern and world music.
Rennert will host several outstanding Israeli musicians with whom he has collaborated over his illustrious career, among them Barry Sacharoff, Rona Kenan and Mika Karni.

The three-day Festival will also include performances by international combos of musicians such as Don Friedman, Gary Smulyan, and Veronika Rodriguez, who will be accompanied by a group of Israeli musicians; Kahil Elzabar, who returns to the Festival after his tremendous success in the 2008 Festival; Tony Pancella and Uri Bracha, the Gutbucket Quartet and more.

Alongside the international lineup, there will be performances by many Israeli jazz groups, young and old, in a wide variety of styles and flavors. As worthy of a Festival that has set the promotion of original compositions as its goal, there will be several original performances produced specially for the Festival, as well as groups making their debut: the Omri Mor Trio, the Shani Mor Quintet, the Erez Bar-Noy Sextet and others.

Like every year, there will be free live performances by jazz groups in the lobby of the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, as well as a jazz happening in the Cinematheque Plaza on Friday afternoon, with the Tel Aviv Jazz Orchestra, Bentzi Gadash quintet, Makondo quintet, Swing de Gitanes jazz combo and combos from the Aleph High School for the Arts.
