Bazelet HaGolan
Bazelet HaGolan Yonatan Sternberg
“The wine should go well with quality hard cheeses. Another option would be to serve the wine alongside elegant Italian or French style meat dishes…” Yonatan Sternberg put his nose to a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon courtesy of Bazelet HaGolan Winery in Israel and went home a satisfied man
The Bazelet Hagolan winery was established in 1998 by Yo’av Levy and Asaf Kedem.
Situated on Moshav Kidmat Tzvi in the Golan Heights, the winery produces red wines using Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in two series: Bazelet and Reserve.

The wines from the Reserve series are usually oaked for approximately 20 months and will benefit from moderate aging, while the Bazelet series are usually aged for a period of between 8-10 months and is intended for earlier drinking.

By the way the name Bazelet means “basalt” in Hebrew and refers to the volcanic terroir of the Golan Heights. The Volcanic basalt soil, high altitude vineyards, and the unique terroir of the Golan Heights combine to create the quality wines of Bazelet ha Golan.

Bazelet Hagolan, Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004

Tasting notes:
Made using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and with a deep purple almost garnet color. This full bodied red is showing plenty of black berry fruits, hints of anise and oak all leading to a long and elegant finish.

Food pairing:
The wine should go well with quality hard cheeses. Another option would be to serve the wine alongside elegant Italian or French style meat dishes.

Tip of the Week: wine and music
I find that wine and music go very well together. Personally I consider myself a jazz and classic rock fan. I was very excited to hear that the New York New York restaurant in Herzliya Pituach will be hosting Jazz performances every Thursday. So kick back open a bottle and enjoy the show.
